Fundamental Principles

How to create fair and equitable learning experiences within the classroom
I will communicate with my associate teacher as well as my teachers at Brock University. Through their experience I will lean on them to provide examples of what they view as being fair and equitable learning experiences within the classroom.

Learning Skills & Work Habits

I will be able to use proper wording to explain how the student is progressing throughout the school year. Also provide effective examples that students can refer to while completing their work.
I will conduct research into how the LSWH are to be exhibited in the classroom. I will use this knowledge to explain to students what are examples of good LSWH and how they can work to improve them throughout the year

Performance Standards: The Achievement Chart
I will be ale to better understand the expectations of a teacher in regards to the Ontario curriculum and how to implement them so that the students are prepared. I will be able to use these assessment charts to evaluate and assess the needs of the students.
I will reference the Ontario curriculum to view examples of the achievement chart for the curriculum I will be teaching. After this review I will be able to take this knowledge to understand what is expected in regards to the achievement of the students.

Assessment FOR Learning & AS Learning
I will be able Evaluate my teaching in order to provide lessons that the students can better connect to. I will also be able to help students to be able to recognize where they can succeed on their own.
Review the lessons from the Assessment class taught at Brock to further my understanding of the responsibilities of Assessment for and as learning. Complete the reflection portion of the Brock lesson plan to reflect on what I found successful and unsuccessful in the classroom.

Be in communication with my associate teacher and other educators at the school about techniques that they have used for evaluating assignments and tasks.

Reporting Student Achievement
I will be able to develop fair and accurate reports that allow the student and parents to view how the mark was achieved
Review the Ontario expectations for what is to be reported on student achievement within the classroom. Be in communication with other educators as to their experiences within reporting student achievement.

Students with Special Education Needs
I will be able develop strategies to implement IEP’s within the class that cater to the needs of the students and be able to guide the student through the modified expectations if any
Communicate with the Educational Assistants that work with the students as well as the parents if acceptable in the scenario. Talk to the Special Education Resource Teacher at the school to gain more information on the student and their learning preferences.

English Language Learners

I will be able to better understand the needs of the students and how to adapt my lesson plans to include their needs
I will talk with the students to see their comfort level within learning English. If needed can provide alternate documents that have different versions of the questions (use of more simple language) or provide translating devices that the students can use.

The Kindergarten Program

I will be able to understand the need of kindergarten students and what is required through their curriculum. I will also learn of how to teach kindergarten students.
I will talk with educators and other teacher candidates about their experiences in the classroom. I will also talk to the Early Childhood Educators if they are present within the classroom. Lastly I will research the full day kindergarten curriculum and the policies associated with it.
